A Foggy Day in Quarantine

I’ve been dog sitting for about 2 weeks now. Roxie is my sister’s dog, she is quite old and on restricted movement due to a health issue. The vet has instructed that she only exercise 10-15 minutes a day. Every day at 8.30am, we set out to walk the 2 blocks around the neighborhood that just so happen to take ten minutes. For the last few days, it’s been rainy and foggy, which honestly makes me want to stay inside under a blanket, watch Netflix and take a nap. As it turns out, Roxie loves the rain and she especially loves puddles.

Deserted road, tree branches and telephone wires on a foggy day.

The fog was so thick this morning, it completely changed the landscape of our two favorite blocks, which made me reach for my camera on our way out the front door. Because she loves the rain so much, we’ve been doing this little dance where I try to convince her not to walk in the mud and puddles while she pulls me directly towards them. It’s a struggle, but also really funny.

A one story white house is seen through the fog and tree branches.

Me trying to take photos just added an extra layer to le struggle of walking a water-loving dog on a rainy day. There we were, both pulling each other in opposite directions while I’m trying to frame the shot, remain steady, hold on to her leash and make sure everything was in focus. I finally had to let go of the leash at one point, strictly on the condition that she understood she was not allowed to run away. Thank goodness she’s too old to think about attempting something like that anymore. She was content to go to the other side of the road and sniff around until I called her back. Thanks Roxie! And thanks fog for these gorgeous shots. We’re now comfortably back inside, warm and toasty and listening to the rain.
